  6. COUNCILLORS REPORTS County Councillor S Lumley reported that County Hall renovations are taking place. £15.1 million has been awarded for fibre to local government / council buildings. This is for the likes of Doctors surgeries, Schools, Hospitals etc. to enhance existing systems. A task force is now looking at 20mph limits in all estates (housing etc) across North Yorkshire. At the moment North Yorkshire is one of the safest counties in the UK. Meetings are being held, looking how the council can reduce its carbon footprint. North Yorkshire County Council is one of three county councils sharing £84 million to look at supporting families, to stop children needing to go into care. The council is the only county council to be awarded Outstanding in this area with Ofsted. Gritters have been tested ready for this coming years freezing weather. Any farmers who participate in helping, and have gritting equipment, are advised to contact NYCC for supplies ready for this winter. The cycling event had over £250 million viewers. As the area relies on a lot of tourism, it is hoped this will increase tourism in the next few years. The event was not a Harrogate Borough Council event. Central Government organised it, Harrogate Borough Council did not manage the event. The new Harrogate Borough Council offices are saving the council an estimated £1million a year over the old offices running costs. The old council offices were sold 2 years ago. That sale fell through, and it has been retendered. The applicants are now being looked at to see their plans. Ripon Pool development is having a number of issues, with gypsum being one. The Pool will be situated next to the existing Leisure Centre.

  7. TELEPHONE BOXES The Telephone boxes in Ramsgill and Lofthouse are now being threatened with removal by BT. As such the council decided to put applications in to adopt the boxes

  8. FIRE STATION Most applicants have now completed the medicals. Training is due to start in November. The aim is the fire station will be operational by Jan 2020, as there are a few items needing sorting, including the water tank on vehicle at Lofthouse, which is currently too heavy to be useable. More recruits are needed, as with those going through, we are only just up to minimum numbers.
